If you work with a good judge it can be a great job. The hours are reasonable (it still can get busier if there is a trial) and it involves meaningful work. The pay however is a fraction of what law firms pay. Also harder to break out if and back into a firm.
There are other options with WLB if that’s what you’re looking for.
I think being a career clerk is a great job. Great WLB and the pay isn’t as bad as people make it out to be. Also it will probably allow you to have some of the most significant impact on the development of law and precedent compared to others legal jobs.
It can be a great job with a lot of flexibility. I know many career clerks who are remote mainly except during trials. As others have said the pay isn’t the best but the work is meaningful and interest. If you love your judge than I would consider it.
