Clerk from when I was interning ended up at Walsh Pizzi; another came from a V20 and went to a boutique Civil Rights firm, then on to clerk for the 3d Circuit.
Will additionally add that a law school friend of mine (who could probably tell you where every DNJ clerk from the last 5 years worked before and after clerking) said they feel that a DNJ clerkship won’t raise your NY Big Law profile much (assuming that’s what you’re getting at). You’ll essentially slot in post-clerkship at the same tier as you would have pre-clerkship. However, you can count on having a good shot at the big NJ firms (for example, Greenberg Traurig in NJ only hires juniors who have clerked). The friend said that in DNJ, your judge’s background will be the biggest predictor of how high you can leapfrog post-clerkship. If the judge came from
Big Law or was a USAG, that will help. If they came in to the federal bench as a solo from Monmouth County, not so much.
