Great question — I’ve seen this go both ways. The AI hires who’ve had lasting success often combine strong technical skills with a deep understanding of product constraints and user needs. The standout contributors didn’t just build cool models — they shipped something usable and durable. Curious what others have seen work in terms of hiring for actual impact, not just hype.
What was it about if you can share it? The classic thing I've seen failing twice now it the "internal chatbot", being it a PoC, it does not get the attention a product needs and UX is under the carpet, so adoption is very low or very expensive and it gets discarded quickly.
