I hate that as well; I get confused, and everything starts to go wrong, hehe. I usually have to block my calendar for focused work, and that stops my notifications from all places; it's great.
Every time!! I swear it's like my coworkers only email me with requests when I'm at my busiest and most stressed. It never happens when my to-do list is manageable, only when I'm already running around like a chicken with its head cut off.
I've gotten good at ignoring emails, at least for a while after they arrive. What I've learned is that if you respond right away people get used to that kind of immediate service. And then, of course, they expect it all the time. And I've also gotten good at ruthlessly prioritizing. I can almost always assess how important or how serious a request is when it comes in. So if it's something that doesn't matter, don't expect a quick answer.
