I started noticing a pattern where I could get hired into tech roles quickly, perform well early on, and still feel mentally checked out within months. It made me realize interviewing skills and long term job compatibility are completely different things. How do you screen for culture and work style fit during tech interviews?

I’m currently a quality control analyst in the biopharma/gene therapy field making 72k base in the Houston area. I’ve been working here for 2 years and my company is well established and the job is easy, but I honestly just want higher pay. I see companies (smaller and larger) that potentially can give me that but would it be worth it? I am in a tech IC position. One of friends switched to FAANG by converting the profile to consultant profile. The friend who might have less tech knowledge than me is now in FAANG and earning more. If the end goal would be that the friend might one day be a product manager and me an engineering manager taking instructions from the same friend, isn't consultant profile an easier path to growth. I had been practising DSA for years and the competition is only ever growing.
