I interviewed with Firm A months ago and accepted a position to start this upcoming fall. Group leader called me to offer the position back in November 2020. Besides interviewing with partners at the firms, and diligent follow ups notifying them of my interest to get started, no communication has transpired since. It turns out that I accepted a better offer w/ Firm B for personal reasons and won’t be going to Firm A. What is the best way to notify Firm A? Call/email group leader? Call/email HR?

It varies - from 2-6 interviews. Some do HR recruiter, hiring manager and that’s it. Others push it to cross functional teams and then it can go up from there. I would say standard is 3 on average. And when it comes to how long it takes very much depends on the company and how much of a hurry they are. Anywhere from 2-3 weeks up to 6 months. My current job took almost 4 months to give me an offer with the holidays and interviewing with what felt like the entire company.
I had a sell side research process recently. Phone interview with hiring manager, take home writing and model case study, panel interview with 2 people in person (not in office). Then 4 interviews in office. About 2 months from sending online application to verbal offer, and this is at a BB.
Curious what comp you’re looking for and YOE?
3 years as an associate and 4 as an analyst, prior to that 1 year in PE. I have several degrees including a doctorate. I’m unsure about comp because I am at a boutique - some years bonus was great and others was just okay. I know at a BB it’s more stable which is where I’m looking to make the move.
Structured interviews, always. Every candidate gets the same questions and assessed by the same scorecard. Some companies try to find a cultural fit for you if they have good HR managers. hope this helps
The usual is 3-4 interview rounds. First with a recruiter, second with the manger of the department you'll be working, the third could be a group or panel interview.
It really depends on the company. Is there a particular company you are looking at?
