300 for a Google slides? Jeez are you going to print that deck for your CD from the 90s?
150 or even 96 should work
Design at higher resolution, as much as your computer can handle. Then use the option “export for screen” when you need to compress the image to put in the deck. Usually it does a decent job at maintaining the quality and keeping the file relatively small in size.
I like 150 or 300 optimized for screens.
For screens you should be using pixel widths. PPI doesn’t matter. Screen resolution is 96ppi. (Or 100 for ease of calculation if you need to calculate inches). The average screen dimensions are 1920x1080 px. So the widest an image should be for onscreen is 1920 px. When exporting from Photoshop, use JPG, quality 8. (Or 80% compression in other apps). For photos (background, landscapes, backgrounds) you can use higher compression.
Only if there is fine, small text do I use larger sizes, and sometimes use PNG since it doesn’t have the compression artifacts that JPGs have.
(I used to work in print in the olden days and would scan images at 200ppi. )
72ppi is standard for digital production, key is to build it at the correct pixel size.
