Genuine question for you both- why do you want to work at the hospital? Most nurses are looking to escape for your roles specifically
I’m also curious about the same thing. I’m in the same boat. I only have experience working at a health insurance company (Humana).
Yes. At least here in MD, hospitals will still take you. Personally I'd say not to start the conversation with talk of "new grad" unless you feel you've lost critical skills/ task prioritization. Then by all means say so lol.
But yes, acute care facilities should certainly take you. New hires are in higher salaries than pre-covid and benefit/ compensation packages are usually pretty good though most require you stay in the hospital's network for insurances. Sometimes there's internal contracts too for an extra pay bump time to time :)
Quick add-on:
Think about what unit you'd want to work on and see if there's facilities that specialize in that. Along with the folks asking why you want to go bedside/ hospital, I will say it's fairly taxing being bedside but it depends on the unit and what you can personally handle as well. For example, Med Surg is a catch-all and you usually get AMS patients and that's a whole headache. Meanwhile on OR floors/ PACU, you're just making sure people are prepped and coming down from anesthesia well before getting them off the unit.
Surgical centers are what a lot of us at AAMC are talking about, maybe that's an avenue you'd be interested in :) just some food for thought. Always a place for you in the hospital, just a matter of if it's what you want.
