Help! I brought my 1-year old pup home for thanksgiving and she’s meeting my dad and brother for the first time and keeps barking at them. She’s met my sisters and mom before and loves them, but the constant barking at the males in the house is so annoying. Any tips??

How are they approaching her? I’d have them sit down on the ground in a quiet room with treats by them and ignore her. They can be on their phones or computer or whatever. It may take awhile but she should eventually approach them on her own.
Let her be around them quietly. Then maybe they try and feed her a treat. Do not pet her at this point! Repeat
Dogs are naturally curious so she’ll eventually be interested if they take it slow.

I have the same issue with my dog and I feel like from their perspective they are trying to protect me and the “territory” around them. So being outside helps a lot, to the point where if someone new is coming over or I’m going to someone’s house, I make sure to have them meet on neutral ground, outside. I’m sure there are other things I need to do to train them not to react, but this helps a lot!

My dog flips out when she meets anyone new inside - try introducing people outside / playing a bit and then when your dog is okay with them outside, have everyone walk inside together. That and have them give your pup lots and lots of treats when she sees them inside. Also, it sucks at the holidays, but keep them separate until your pup is okay with them - start with small doses together until your dog is happy with everyone.

Yes walks with new people before entering the house usually helps for my overprotective dog

Or go on a walk together outside - that can be helpful as well.

My pup did this too with males. Much better now. Feed your pup treats as they sit in the room. Observe the pup’s behavior to be sure she isn’t overwhelmed. Always work within her limits. Over time you can have them throw treats to her or feed her themselves. The idea is for her to associate their presence with treats.

Another thing that might work is for them to withdraw their attention from her. Avoid eye contact. She may see them as a threat to you and does not understand that you see them as part of your pack yet.

Good luck and enjoy thanksgiving!!

I’m graduating in December, with a background in environmental economics and policy. Consulting didn’t work out this cycle. Made it to final rounds for Bain and Kearney but in the end didn’t get an offer. I want to recoup and try again, but I’m worried that once I’m out of undergrad the door will be closed to starting in consulting.

What can I do to make this happen? I have friends and connections at Bain and Kearney and the other firms as well, but not sure if it’s feasible now.
