Hey all, any paralegals here who switched from IP litigation to family law? Would love to hear your advice or insights. Thanks a bunch!

I've never worked in either of those fields, but it sounds like a bad move to me. IP has a much higher pay ceiling than Family law, with much less stress and drama.

I'm curious, what's made you want to make this move?

Thank you for responding. Since I've done several years of litigation from business, commercial, employment and real estate (and also interned at a family law firm before), I'm just trying to see what opportunities are out there and what skills are transferrable.

You really don’t make shit for money in family law, and you deal with people’s personal problems all day every day. Everybody has their niche, if you think family law might be your niche I totally understand, but you may cut your salary in half.

Thank you for the insight. If it's a huge salary cut, I will definitely stay in my field.

Today I won a raffle for an Omega SMP 300. To show my appreciation to the watch gods, I am letting my current diver, the legendary SKX009 go for the same price as my raffle ticket ($38, shipping included). If anyone is looking for this hugely popular piece (ideally a new collector), hit me up! Currently sized to a 6.75” wrist but comes with all links. All hail the watch gods!

Has anyone dealt with a lack of praise from attorneys? I'm not someone who needs to hear "good job" all the time, but we just got a huge deal closed that I worked really hard on and had a lot of overtime. And once it closed, the lead attorney praised the other attorneys, and said nothing about me or my work. I might just be overly sensitive, but it kind of stung. Thoughts?

I’ve been a paralegal for about 30 years in private law firmS. As I get older, I feel like it’s time for a semi-career change. Either an office manager position or perhaps a corporate position where I can travel a little since my kids are grown and I’m an empty-nester. Has anyone made this type of transition? Advise welcome. My boss (atty) is so disorganized! I’ve been with him 6 months and he’s having a hard time delegating, sharing info and managing deadlines. I’ve organized the caseload to manage the deadlines. He says he wants me to help with discovery but when I offer to start on one, he says he needs to do it. (Since he might have to present as evidence) When I give him deadlines and ask for the docs he says he’ll get to it. It’s a small 1 man firm, and I’m the first assistant besides his wife. Any advice?

Hi everyone. Is it typical for the attorney to take credit for the work a paralegal does? An example: I gave some ideas about deposition questions and some observations I made (I was asked about giving suggestions) regarding a witness and the attorney mentioned that he’s the one that had these great questions/observations. Zero credit or thank you for the work I did.

Hey, does anyone work for Jacobowitz Newman Tversky? Would love to know more about the office and culture .

So I have my bachelors in criminal justice and I just finished my paralegal certificate course today. My attorney should be making partner this year. With that being said I told her that I would complete my certificate by the summer around the time she would make partner. Should I mention to her Monday that I completed my paralegal certificate in hopes that the raise will be bigger or should I wait until June when she makes partner.thoughts?

Are there any fully remote lawfirms, ie you don't have to live in the state they have offices? I recently left a large lawfirm to go in-house which came with a huge paycut that is not going to be sustainable long term, but needed a remote position to be able to move. I'd like to keep my current job part-time but get back in a lawfirm too.
