Anyone with recent experience recruiting for Boston Consulting Group? Got in touch with a recruiter through referral, was directed to submit an application and already finished my pymetrics. Anyone know when I would be able to hear back and what the hiring timeline looks like? Recruiter suggested to get back in a few weeks but isn’t it too slow? McKinsey sent me an invite for 1st interview in a few days after they received my referral.

McK: OMG go to BCG
BCG: probably should go to McK
Should *definitely go to McKinsey
BCG southern offices are notorious for their toxic cultures
I don’t think this is true - every office has a mix like McK does too…
Strongly recommend BCG. McK previously use to have faster path to Partner, so the additional pain in our staffing process and lower pay was a little justified. One of the biggest problems incoming batches have had is getting the opportunity to get promoted - you literally have to beg to get an opportunity to get promoted (has been that way more recently and wasn’t the case before). BCG is a lot more cleaner in terms of their process as per my understanding.
I strongly recommend avoiding McK for a couple of years until things stabilize and we see that we are aback to the glory days (lots of Ps and SPs leaving the Firm, significant HC reduction, Overscoped work / understaffed teams (likely similar complaints at BCG as well)).
Overall, the EM/PL promotion at McKinsey is more challenging than at BCG. There are more hurdles at McK.
Neither. Don’t do consulting out of MBA
You might also ask how many of the last two or three cohorts are still with each office. Might give you a toxicity meter.
BCG has been building in workforce obsolescence through identifying “new AFDs” to get people to work harder or keep them on the edge for firing when MDPs aren’t selling.
McKinsey addressed the same issue by slowing promotions or paying people to leave. Tells you all you need to know about culture. Yes I’m obviously biased, but I left because it’s all true.
currently at mck; we lost out on a lot of cool work to bcg (in my industry)... i would have gone to bcg + they pay higher...
190K base BCG vs 192 base McK; evens out with bonuses though
Feel free to dm me! Made the same choice
Pick whichever unless it’s BCG Miami
