If someone is not happy you’re in their house, why would you want to stay there? Why would you “ask” to stay there? I doubt it would cancel eb2, but seriously, why do people cling with such ferocity when they could work and start businesses from their own countries?
PE1: It is harder for sure for Iranians to come to US but once here, getting GC is actually easier than what Chinese/Indians go through, or used to be easier, because for us as soon as our Perm application is approved we can apply for I140/185 together, and OP mentioned he has pending I140/I185 which means he applied for both together, which Chinese and Indian usually can’t on any EB category, after I140 most folks from China/India need to wait for yrs
In Ohio where I live there were over 130 new Iranian students every year, that is one state, Students make the most of immigrants from Iran
Note - only Iranian folks that could get asylum here, even when things were better were religious minorities and LGBTQ, that are very few, US doesn’t give asylum easily as far as I know
PC1: propriety is a tough one to claim. If you read carefully, OP didn’t ask for advice, but rather an opinion. Before expressing my opinion, I attempted to understand why he’d care so much whether it goes one way or another as a highly regarded specialist with advanced degree, since an H1B work visa assumes that US based employer exhausted all local options before hiring someone from abroad. I brought the example of AirBnb for a reason: I don’t need to know who rents my property, as long as we agree and uphold terms. There are many things about OP I don’t know, an likely don’t need to for the sake of this conversation… but I know for a fact a whole bunch of kids in US that graduated in the last 5-6 years are fighting tooth and nail for ANY job, while I personally see a whole slew of jobs that any intern could do with their eyes closed go to H1B visa holders. Companies CLAIM every H1B holder is highly regarded expert, but somehow none of experts can figure out how to be a digital nomad, and take jobs that require little to no experience. OP presented a valid (from his point) rationale, rooted entirely on personal gain. Cool, happy for him. But did you ever consider why a huge surge in local jobs in 2020-2022, coincided with actual (vs. claimed) restriction on all work visa issuance and extensions, and travel in general? And collapse of that surge once the restrictions were lifted in 2023?
