A BIG part of a project manager’s job in the ad industry is acting as a partner to creative teams.
You’re basically the air traffic controller making sure the creatives have the space/time to do their best work, without missing client deadlines.
Definitely, absolutely, 100% talk about how you plan to be a partner to the creative team so your team can crank out the best possible work.
I just want to say thank to everyone. I think I did great. (Hope I am right)
Talk about any aspects of project ownership, budgets and time management. These are all critical and will be the best way to garner their attention. I would also say personality is a huge thing for a PM. Researching the company, and maybe getting a feel of what their clients are will also help.
I’m a Director of Project Management so here is some advice:
1. Make them know you are organized and able to know where things are at any given time.
2. Your job will mainly be making sure people deliver things on time so show that you are a good person that will get along with your team and be able to motivate them.
3. You’ll need to do some reporting so show that you are good at math, finances and tools like excel and more PM focused ones like Jira.
4. Sounds cheesy but show you won’t crack under pressure, a good PM knows how to handle tough situations and take it for his team.
5. Finally show that you love what you’ll be doing which I think you do, otherwise you wouldn’t be here asking for advice on how to land the job.
You have to be good at navigating difficult and a large variety of personalities. And if you think you check that box you should definitely bring it up as a strength.
Be confident. Show with examples that you can own/lead a project. A good project manager can make people trust that everything will be alright when you say 'I got this'.
We're the glue that keeps everything together.
