Did you ever buy a house??
Yup! In Old Bridge a few months ago!
Depends how much cash you're willing to spend. East brunswick has an easy bus commute to Nyc, like 30-40 min, and is a reasonable middle class community. I grew up in Monroe Township and had great schools, a bunch of my neighbors commuted to nyc, like an hour then. Or if you've got cash, there's always Montclair, Bridgewater, Westfield.

Thanks. Will you be working in the city full time? Or can you be remote sometimes?
the westfield cranford area is ideal but it’s so hard to get a house there the bidding wars are nuts and it’s super expensive

There are a few houses for sale on my block, including one in a culdesac.
We moved from downtown JC to south orange about 5 years ago.
Upper saddle River!
Glen Ridge or Montclair.
4 train stops between the 2 towns. Great schools. Could be as little as 28 minutes on the train from Penn to Glen Ridge.
Rutherford and and surrounding towns have mass transit (train/buses) going to NYC on the regular.
