Hi all,

I have nearly a decade of experience as a consultant in nonprofit communications (my specialties include outreach, writing client success stories, representing organizations at events, and social media) and am now looking into fulltime roles.

As I tweak my resumé and try to polish my skills as I job search, I'm curious: what skills do you suggest emphasizing on application materials (besides those listed in the job requirements, of course) and in interviews?

Thanks for any ideas!

You got it right, showing you have what is listed only makes you get on the right ones piles, but you need to go beyond. Besides the job-specific skills, I’d highlight things like stakeholder communication, storytelling for impact, cross-functional collaboration, and adaptability, especially since you’ve worked across multiple orgs as a consultant. In interviews, emphasize results (e.g., engagement growth, donor impact, outreach success) and how you tailor messaging to different audiences. Those soft skills go a long way in nonprofit roles!

The first thing that comes to mind is to show results. If you've worked for some notable clients, show that off. Also, it probably makes sense to showcase your social media work.

Hello Everyone,

I have been working with Kantar (a market research company) for 10 months now. The company has given me permanent work from home. Work is quite good and I am able to learn many things here. Also, my manager is very supportive and patient.
The only thing is about compensation, I have a package of 14 lpa with 6 YOE.
I'm thinking of switching to some company based in Pune.
What should I do?

Anyone have advice for advancing in your current role? My co-worker was hired in at manager level but somehow “proved” he was actually doing director level work and got a title promotion and salary increase in less than a year. I also went above and beyond my job as well (covering for him for a month while he was away on paternity leave) while taking on other projects outside of my job title and got zip—no raise or recognition. Any advice would be appreciated!
