Hi Everybody,
I work as a Financial Analyst in a Retail Company in Canada. I started to pursue CPA recently and I have long term goal to relocate to US eventually (haven’t figured that out yet). Somebody advised me to stop pursuing CPA Canada and to start pursuing CPA US of I want to relocate in the future. Also it is easier as compared to Canada. My question is has anyone done this before? If you have clarity, can you tell me the pros and cons? Thank you!

I’m not entirely sure on Canada to US but I know Australia to US is easy. The US requires five years of education, Australia is only four. And the conversion used to be you only had to pass one section of the US exam to convert (REG). So I’d first start by comparing the university requirements because no one wants to take a fifth year of college (except for Barry Melancon and Ken Bishop😝).

What are the real skills to learn to get a leg up for a new data job? Not the wishlists you see on career websites.

I am looking for a new job. I currently work with product data and I utilize vlookup and trim functions more than anything else. Including SQL queries that are already written for my needs. It's the same everyday and I'm done. I'm a quick learner - only earning 53k a year.

Will most companies teach me what I need to know or should I go and find skills to learn on my own?

Considering joining a small 50-person company as the only attorney (prior attorney is retiring). (I am currently in-house at a F50). For others who have done the same path, what surprises did you have when moving from a large company to a small one?

For example, it sounds like I should not expect a document management system, based on a prior post in this bowl. I’m guessing expenses like state bar fees and cell phone are not reimbursed.

Any advice on things to expect (or not expect)?

Any inputs will be really appreciated 🙂

I was just informed after the third round of interviews they’d like at least 5 references, two must be supervisors. My last job was a temporary remote job where I didn’t really interact with my supervisor and the jobs before that were at my family’s business (I do not speak to any of them for serious personal reasons.)
