Hi everyone, for audit managers who pivoted to industry doing financial reporting / technical accounting, how did you go about highlighting your ability to perform such functions if your exposure to them have been limited in audit? Thanks!

It’s all about how you phrase. Use terms like “ exposure” to the FS industry (or others), advised on the accounting of a,b and C, and provided support to clients on adapting certain processes. Even if the company was changing their GL software, and you had to review the change, you can probably say you were exposed to both softwares and analyzed the controls, gaps, etc. I guess it really depends on the role you are applying for though.

like

Reviewed journal entries/support; reviewed complex transactions/support for appropriate accounting conclusion; reviewed financial statements for complete/accurate disclosures (with sufficient support); gained an understanding of controls and identified gaps.

Additional Posts in Accounting Exit Opportunities

I started a position a month and a half ago at a large holding company. My manager left after 2 weeks of training me, and his replacement is likely going to be another senior accountant. I am so lost and don’t have the guidance I had signed up for. Is it bad to ask for an internal transfer to one of the brands instead?

I’m in my 2nd year in audit. I want to pivot into management consulting within a big 4 or MBB. Has anyone seen someone make this lateral movement? I’m not sure how feasible that is and what steps to take. I’m also down to discuss further with whoever is comfortable in connecting.

What’s going on FB friends,

I am contemplating a move to industry working at a VC, Tax Director role east coast. Looks like it will be primarily overseeing compliance with some aspect of advising on structures etc. There is another tax reporting head above me.

The potential comp is the low 200k with a 10% bonus (still higher than what I am making). I feel this is pretty low for VC standards but maybe my standards are also too high. I have generally seen 25% bonus with carry.

Any thoughts?

UPDATE (RE: SoCal Assistant Controller Interview)

So after two weeks of waiting (and giving up on the idea of getting the job really), the recruiter got back to me.

They said due to month-end and quarter-end close they were busy and couldn’t get back to me as quickly for a “good update”.

The recruiter said the CFO enjoyed our call, she, the CFO, will call me next week directly to “discuss some final things”.

Not sure if Im hired or not, but are there any questions about the job, comp (cont.)

Very new to being headhunted by recruiters on LinkedIn, should I be concerned with sending recruiters my resume or anything along those lines if they’ve messaged me?
