Ugh, I’ve had similar experiences. It’s so rough when clients flip-flop and gaslight you like that. It’s important to stay calm and keep a record of everything, just in case. Maybe send a recap email with the original plan and reasoning behind it, so there’s a clear paper trail. But I hear you, it’s hard to let go when they’re on retainer! How have you been managing the communication?
I know this type. I had one client like that at my previous agency. They would flip flop on everything, demand constant revisions, and were so unpleasant. I was so happy when the owner finally terminated their contract. Definitely isn't easy to pass up on recurring revenue, so I can feel your pain. Hopefully you can scale to a point where you no longer need their money and can tell them to either lighten up or get lost.
I hate when this happens! Always take really detailed notes and use email to follow up after meetings to make sure you are aligned on next steps. Then there is proof!
Some people are just wired that way, it's like a mental issue. They figure they're paying you, and for amusement they can yank your chain and make you dance around. If you understand what's happening and the money is good, you might as well play along and take their money. But as some point you have to decide whether the debasement is worth putting up with.
You document everything and have everyone who was present sign off on it. It’s easier to call someone on some bs when the entire team heard something else.
