Hi everyone, I’m working in Toronto as an AE and my wife is a designer. We want to move to settle down in Calgary. However, I’m worried about finding an advertising or marketing job in Calgary. Can you please help me with some infor about the mar-com landscape and job landscape over there? Is it hard to get a job in the industry? Thank you in advance for your answers! Have a great Friday!

I think there’s quite a bit of government business but little else. I believe there’s an arm of DDB there that handles quite a bit, including a design studio. Good luck.

Hi all,

After the final interview, HR reached out and said they would like to extend an offer. HR gave a ball park of 135k - 145k base with about 15k in sign-on equity and 20k annual bonus.

After a couple of days, HR person came back with with 125k base and 20k annual bonus. No sign-on equity anymore. What should I do given that these numbers seem way lower than the initial range provided? HR claimed it’s because of “market conditions”.

There’s no reason you have to put up with a job you hate. I spent many years working in a toxic environment with a boss who gossiped and lead through fear. He wasn’t really much of a leader but basically a foreman. And he could make my existence miserable. I admit that it wasn’t easy to find another job but the bottom line is: trust your guts. If you feel something is wrong it’s because it probably is. Don’t second guess yourself. Look for options and and fight for your mental health.
