I have a question for all those with a non-tech background who broke into the fintech sector as a graduate. How did you manage to get into fintech and what roles are you involved in?

I am about to graduate with a business degree but can't seem to find any referrals or even information about working in the top fintech firms in my country. I would be really glad to learn about your experiences and any advice would be really appreciated!

I recently lateraled into Big Law. Most of my colleagues are homegrown. My shift did involve a big change in practice area, and there's work that I haven't done before that I now have to do.

But, sometimes I feel stupid here, even for work which I have done previously. It's like I'm unable to understand instructions the first time around. And I have seen my colleagues getting annoyed by that. It's like I've become dumb. In my defence, I could say they're giving half assed instructions.

Is the CPA designation worth it? For me it would take me 1 year of PREP courses and 2 years of PEP until i can write the CFE. And I am 27 years old right now. Also wondering if it would be crazy to pursue the CPA while learning how to code to be a developer as well?

I had completed my engineering and mba but never worked as a software engineer. I started my career in sales and am now working as a PO. So I lack technical knowledge as well. Does anyone have experience working for a ALSP? How does compensation work (pay and benefits)? Are you an employee or technically an IC? Do you have billable requirements like at a firm? How do you think it prepared you to potentially move in house? I'm currently at a firm but thinking of taking a position with an ALSP but my goal is to go in house.

Is it worth it to go into acting for the pay only? I've received a couple opportunities with decent pay, and while this is not the path I want for my life, it's all I have at the moment.
