Hi, I recently came to know about the forced ranking system here in exxonmobil. Does each manager in BTC have to nominate at least 1 employee in his/her team as need for improvement each year as per this forced ranking system or is it only used during layoffs. Can you please let me know as I am worried, whether to accept a job offer or not.

Hi Everyone,
I spoke with one of my colleagues in my previous company, who is currently working in Exxon. He told me that for new hires who join during the middle of the year, for the first year there will be mac review, which has categories such as good and very good, managers will try to evaluate our performance mostly in the coming year may and try to put in the above 2 categories, where relative evaluation will be done with the people who join in the same period, mostly done amongst the new hires in BTC. From the second year onwards, based on the teams we work with and interact with, relative performance ranking will be done with Houston people in the same grade as us, depends on the people who you're working with globally. So it is only from the second year I guess new hires are subjected to relative ranking.
