Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.

I think the easiest job market to break into at your age is retail and restaurant. Now that it's summer, stores and eateries can be more flexible with your hours because they don't have to ensure you have time for your main job -- going to school and doing your homework. This will give you an opportunity to show them you are dependable and competent, so they can give you a few short shifts during the week and a full shift on the weekend. What are your interests? Sporting goods, lawn and garden, tools, clothing, shoes, electronics? I'd stay away from major appliances at your age. Trust me. I did my time in retail sales and the major appliance guys are brutal. Do you like sales or would you feel more comfortable as a cashier or back in the storage area or warehouse? You wouldn't be able to operate a forklift or other heavy equipment for a couple of years, but there's a lot of work to do behind the scenes. Good luck in the job hunt. If you get some retail sales experience under your belt, that also puts you in good stead to move into an office sales position later in your professional life.

Find a role in a field you are interested in, even if you are the go-for. This will help you form your long term goals. It will also help you network and build relationships in the field of interest. So many people get a degree in one field and then don’t love it or change majors adding time and expense to their college investment.
