There is so much lack of clarity right now on all things I would seriously urge caution in accepting this offer. For those of us inside it’s been absolutely awful and there is a lot of talk that they aren’t done with cuts.
I would only accept the offer with maternity leave built into the offer letter. Use it as a negotiation based off initial offer. Once they know you are pregnant it’s illegal to rescind the offer. FWIW federal law protects everyone with 12 weeks unpaid leave. In NY employers are legally required to provide 12 weeks at 67% of your salary. Most big companies cover that 100%. As a mother, I highly recommend you take 4 months minimum.
This is great advice and I second this for sure.
Don’t have much additional to say other than if you turn it down PLEASE cite their horrendous benefits as one of the main deciding factors.
They don’t care what anyone here thinks but maybe they’ll have to adjust if they can’t hire anyone?
There is very little room for negotiation at omnicom agencies these days, if you want an exception be sure to negotiate it before you accept and get it in writing. I watched turnover in management and HR screw a lot of people over who hand handshake agreements about things before omnicom started consolidating agencies.
That’s kind of insane. Are you in New York or does your state have any regulations?
I’m at an Omnicom Agency and I would highly encourage you against it. Everyone I know is trying to get out across all ages. I’ve had multiple coworkers with kids leave recently, 1) because of the lack of flexibility and 2) the insane amount of work.
As a woman at an omnicom agency, I wouldn’t take the offer unless you need to. I don’t know how negotiating would go, because a LOT of the recruiting/people team was cut in the IPG acquisition so there’s a chance you’d be negotiating with some higher up at OMC as opposed to someone directly with the agency who may care more.
There’s a lot of uncertainty in job security over here right now, so definitely just encourage you to be cautious.
My manager just got back from maternity leave and explained it to me this way. Not sure if it’s changing in 2026 but maybe worth asking about this scenario.
FMLA covers your job for 12 weeks. Omnicom will pay you your full paycheck through short term disability (as long as you are opted in) for up to 12 weeks depending on your tenure. this is up to the insurance company to decide how many weeks you qualify for which will never be 12 weeks. so for a vaginal birth, short term disability will pay out 6 weeks of your full pay, if you have a C section it goes to 8 weeks.
next, omnicom will pay 10 weeks of family bonding time at the conclusion of your short term disability payout. that gets you to a total of 16 or 18 weeks depending on your birth of paid leave. However FMLA will stop at 12 weeks so there may be a small amount of time where your job isn’t protected.
It’s important to note Omnicoms new policy does not pay the first week of short term disability. So only 5 or 7 weeks of the STD are paid. It sucks
Unless you’re currently unemployed and these benefits are better than what you currently have, I would not come to an omnicom agency right now. The benefits are abysmal and I’ve never felt less secure with a job before.
I thought it was 10 weeks. I took my job here when pregnant about 4 years ago and was given 10 weeks paid even though I’d only been there for 7 months.
I will be taking maternity leave in the spring after accepting an offer newly pregnant — confirmed with HR after the merger that I’ll get 10wks paid leave, but because I’ll be going on Mat leave before I hit the 1 year mark, the STD is only 2 weeks regardless of delivery type. So 12 weeks total. Once you hit the 1 year mark, STD leave gets much longer
Same here. Urge caution. My husband worked there when I had a baby and they scoffed at him taking a week of vacation to help me. He had no parental leave.
Girl, RUN. Isnt a new baby (let alone being preg) enough stress and drama at once?? Why would you cut your legs off with a) 2 weeks mat leave or 2) nebulous negotiations? You’re walking into the eye of the monster. Run run run RUN AWAY!
Make sure it's clear the difference between PAID and PROTECTED time off. You can usually take more time off with your job protected but not paid - and states regulate that portion as well.
Best to avoid! More Omnibombs to come!
I would also add that I’d expect rolling layoffs next year for sure. Given the volume of layoffs in this last round I have heard they got away with laying off both women on leave and women about to take leave. While they may not be able to legally rescind your offer, I’d be concerned I’d be first in line for layoffs
Yes you get the full unpaid mat leave by law the they'll just pay you for 2 of those weeks - it's not that you only get 2 weeks off
Do you have any previous time vested at an IPG agency? If so, you should ask how that might impact your tenure.
