A detangling brush like this is a life saver
Thank you. Yesterday, we ordered the Felicia leatherwood detangling brush. Any recommendation for process such as conditioner etc
> Hair is also dry and the conditioner and or oil doesn’t seem to help
My boys are mixed, but they have very different hair. One matches this description.
Weekly, we at at least use conditioner and detangle every knot. We slather his head with argan oil running our fingers through to make sure it’s a full, even application. His hair naturally curls back up.
Daily, we lightly pick it out to hep with knots and give it a little volume. We spritz with a little water. Not enough to thoroughly wet his hair, but a light mist. We liberally apply Curlsmith styling soufflé which has a moisturizing aspect to it as well.
What are you doing to the hair at night? It’s really important (unless you are keeping their hair super close cut), to braid or twist it before they go to bed and either have them wear a silk hair scarf/bonet or sleep on silk pillowcases. One of the top causes of knots is the friction from loose hair rubbing on Cotten. Also if the hair is curly, don’t comb/brush while it’s dry. Spray a bit of water or leave in to moisten the hair and comb while damp. Finally, don’t wash daily. On the product side, it really is trial and error, but the key is to keep it moisturized.
Wife and I have 2 kids with curly and dry hair. We have refine our routine over time but I recommend you take a seat for constant trial and error experiments.
Currently, we only condition their hairs once weekly with (Shea Moisture Daily Hydrating Conditioner 100% Virgin Coconut Oil 34 oz
From Costco ), use argan oil (One 'n Only Argan Oil For Hair Dry Hair Treatment 8oz from Amazon) daily to lock in the moisture especially during the cold or dry times. Every week or so we go to Global Foods to buy aloe Vera, cut it open, and comb the juice out as a natural conditioner — fridge what is left for later.
For night time, I would buy silk bonnets or something else to lock in the moisture. For a daughter, learn how to braid to protect the hair. Once the hair is nicely moisturized, scalp healthy the detangling will get easier.
PS. We use the Shea shampoo for kids once a month or sometimes more if there are a lot of product build-up. Home this helps.
