Socialize and expand the friends circle. I made a point to ensure my kids had diversity and were able to see themselves in leadership roles, teaching Sunday school, social clubs, basketball, tennis. Groups for boys and girls only as well.
That way differences are normal.
We focused on building confidence and security in the way they look by involving them in community theatre plays, dances, etiquette classes with peers and othe culturally diverse experiences.
It’s a continuous effort as parents will need to instill and support kids because there is always someone willing and able to harm their self esteem.
Good luck🍀
Can you explain a bit more? By curly what do you mean, like 4c or 3b/c?
What do you want to discuss with him? That he cannot have that type of hair, that he is not white? I remember when I was a kid I also wanted to white like Michael Jackson. I grew up in a Caribbean country and MIchael was white to me. I essentially grew out of it. No one really talked to me about it, so I don’t know if you really need to do / say something. Maybe the difference is my elementary school class was less than 50% white / light skin.

I can see where you are coming from. I really don’t have a good answer. That’s said, kids in general will enter phases of self hate regardless of it being driven by race, so you’ll have to brace yourself for this anyway. Most grow out of it but some take a toll from it. Overall, I do believe kids are very observant of their family behavior. That will shape how they feel but at the end of the day they are their own self
Sounds like a great opportunity to talk to him about why his hair is that curly...
