I’m not saying that’s not your experience, but execution without strategy is just doing stuff to show you’ve done stuff. And you can absolutely do well by doing that, but it’s likely going to result in you continuing to do that exact job. If you want to excel, you connect your execution to the strategy and if you feel the strategy isn’t well enough defined, you challenge and work to make it better.
Quality strategy is based on an understanding of your target customer and their emotional/rational needs, how you solve it and why the customer should believe that you can do it. The more data you have, the more confident you can feel in your strategy.
My contrasting hot take is: too much money is wasted on execution work without a properly defined strategy. Even a strategy built off fluffy guesswork is better than no strategy at all - especially if it’s adjusted based on learnings from the results of execution.
Instead of relying on "fluffy guesswork" or deploying a "spray and pray" approach to content, it's crucial to seek and gather valid insights and data. By doing so, you can substantiate your theories and develop a strategy that is grounded in evidence, increasing the likelihood of successful execution.
