How are senior associates navigating a potential career change? I’m a senior associate in litigation, and there are no growth opportunities at my law firm. I don’t want to go in-house. My preference is to lateral to a big law firm or litigation boutique, but despite great credentials, I haven’t received an offer after months of searching. And I feel like I’m falling behind the longer I stay at my firm because of the lack of training and opportunities. What do I do?

Are you open to relocation? I think that could open things up a bit.

Same. Currently a 7th year and trying to figure out exit options.

Very similar position. How senior are you?

Litigation moves can be very tough, especially as a senior associate lacking in substantive trial, motion, and depo experience. You may have to take a step back in class year or firm rank to get the experience you need to eventually advance to where you want to be.

This is crucial for me to apply for the GC.

Question for funds folks, since no one is around to answer any questions and I can't seem to find this answer anywhere. Why can't a placement agent combine or integrate the offering of interests in the sponsor's fund with the contemporaneous offering of interests in another fund? Is it based on reputational risk or from a sales perspective in case someone rejects both funds, any other issues? Thanks!

Associate at an AmLaw 100 firm doing patent work. I applied to a part time masters program to try to pivot to a different technical field (still doing patent work, but in something that interests me more than what I’m doing now). Do I try to stick it out at the firm while getting the masters, ask for a reduced hours schedule, or get a part time, non-legal job so I can focus more on the program (one year).

I’ve been at a job for a few months and hate it - partners set unrealistic deadlines, micromanage, and create work that truly is not necessary/push urgency when there is no real urgency. I had other offers prior to accepting this job that may still be options, and going back to my old job (for a pay cut) might also be an option. I can’t tell if this is just burnout, growing pains, or just an untenable work environment. Would you ride it out for a year at new job or pursue other options? HELP!
