I've been avoiding breaking up with someone (I've been dating off and on for a year) for the past few weeks because I can't decide the best way to do it. We're not compatible long-term. He's not seeing anyone else and I've told him I'm seeing other people but he's starting to have relationship expectations for me since we reconnected a few months ago. I’m in this business to cure my inferiority complex. Making lots of money, working with fortune 500 clients and walking the streets of NYC with a suit, tie and briefcase makes me feel important and worthy.

I often wish I could be like my law school friends who either moved to small towns or have public sector or non profit jobs, wear sweaters and jeans to work and make far less than me, but are happy with their lives, feel a sense of meaning with their work and don’t need external validation.
