I did not hit mine first year as a lateral and it was fine.
As long as they prorate your hours you should be ok. I came in mid January and they did NOT prorate the time. The excuse was people normally take vacation that time so it shouldn't affect me much if at all. Gee, thanks....
The hours are prorated but my situation is a little unique. I don’t want to say much without outing myself
NBD.
Expected unless your group is really busy. In that case, you got some splaining to do.
Not a huge deal. Ideally they should prorate your hours and let you know that number ahead of time. If they didn’t, I suggest calculating it on your own and trying to get as close as possible. They may mention it to you at the start of the next year just as something to keep in mind but in no way should it count against you
Depends on the firm. Some firms like HB hire more than they have work for and the fire associates. Happens every year with that firm. Others will work with you. It’s all relative as well. If you are in a firm because they want to “grow” in a new market and they decide to go another direction. You get the shaft. They lost partners you get the shaft. They lost business you get the shat. Figure out what’s going on.
