I’m from NY lol. But NY has historically had some really weird communication around staffing. We’re always told we’re over staffed in the summer because there just IS no summer work in my practice, and then come the fall, you have to have managers and second years senior jobs. We’re losing folks, so I don’t think it’ll come to layoffs here either. I think there may be a few performance based separations, hopefully legitimate
PwC’s approach was to apply the concept of the vitality curve. In theory, this is in line with how layoffs/ firings for low performers have been handled for the past 10 years. The only difference is that the firm this year has been less willing to be patient with people and give them further opportunities to demonstrate improvement.
Agree - seems like it's true that some of the people who got 4s and 5s this year would've gotten 3s and 4s the last few years, but only because it was harder to retain people with the job market so hot
They just happened at our round tables. People got 5s (1-5 system 5=bad) and they were fired for performance reasons. No “COVID layoffs”. Seems we had more 5s than normal this year

“Layoffs as a last resort” is the mantra at PwC
But there have been a lot of posts where people think a higher than normal number of people were let go or put on PIPs for “performance” reasons
