I will avoid saying it depends on what field/function you are pursuing. :) Will just talk about my personal experience as I went through tech recruiting (BD, Strategy, PMM) as a 2nd year EM (early in the year). I was still recruiting for individual contributor L5 at Google, L64 at MSFT, similar level at others - exact same roles I would have targeted 6 months back. in these more generalist roles - they seem to value us for the skills -problem solving, athleticism, story telling- which you have already demonstrated with your transition. I felt they completely discounted the people management aspect. If I was an AP then it would have been one level up everywhere (I think)- so I was stuck in the middle (especially since all of them try to down level- for good reasons). YMMV- I know couple of EMs/PLs who used that one year to build on a specific unique skill set (often tying to pre MBA days) and then really made the jump to the next level.

If you're looking at Big Tech, outside of strategy and/or BD roles, my understanding from talking to a number of friends and HMs across Big Tech, they care far more about your years of relevant experience than your title and pedigree.

Unfortunately this is true :(
If it matters, I've got an MBA from a top 10.
