In general, dress inconspicuously and leave valuables at home, always be aware of your surroundings, have a bag where you can wear across your front / hold or lock the zipper if you’re in crowded places, ignore the Gypsies, don’t go to sketchy areas at night, employ a resting b*tch face.
Split your cards / money so in a worse case scenario you’re not left with nothing. I’ve stuck my extra cash stash in a pad or bandaid box but also have a separate money belt.
If you do get mugged, don’t struggle and throw money in the opposite direction so you can get away safely.
I’ve been to Paris over a dozen times in the last several years and always felt just as safe as any big city. Mind your surroundings and your stuff, avoid sketchy areas, and don’t indulge strangers and you will be totally fine.

As someone who grew up in Paris for few years of teenage life, do not talk to any stranger on street (true Parisian's won't indulge anyways), and stay away from shady areas. Also, keep every ID in digital as well copies in hotel. The biggest risk is metro so always be extra cautious. Lastly, DO NOT drink anything (even a glass of that bougie champagne) from a stranger or if the drink is offered as free or is left attended, basically carry your own water or get it from the bar. Check the locks of bathroom in restaurants as well. Yes, it has become crazy over the years but as with any big city just don't let your guard down.
