How do people actually find out what peers make? Salary sites are all over the place and internal transparency doesn’t exist. Do you just ask colleagues directly or wait for recruiters to spill numbers?

I can’t recommend asking others what they make. You just have to wade through the sites and job postings that do have salary ranges to make your most informed decision.

I asked a close law school friend what she made, but made clear I understood if she didn’t want to. She did share and it gave me a better idea of the pay rates for a midsized firm in my city which was very helpful to me. I really appreciated that she was willing to share

At a former company everyone at the Legal Counsel level agreed to anonymously provide our salaries. It's in workers' best interest to know how much their coworkers make.

My state has a pay transparent law so if a role is shared online you can see the salary.

When and how do you push back on people senior to you? Fifth year dealing with supersenior associate (11th year) who completely lacks good judgment & common sense. I offered to send myself but apparently that wouldn’t work (presumably because it would be efficient & make sense.) At what point (and how) do I Just Say No?

I have an offer for $130k for a senior attorney position in a boutique L&E firm. Also have a recruiter who thinks she can get me into another for $150-170k. Any tips for countering the $130k offer for more using the other potential offer while not risking a complete withdrawal of the current offer? I interviewed at a law firm and had my final round last Friday. The Tuesday afterward, I got a call from the recruiter saying the firm won’t have a decision for another week. I believe they’re interviewing other candidates. Does that make me second or third choice? And does the fact that I’m working with a recruiter hurt my chances of being selected due to the commission? Is this normal in the entertainment world? Any suggestions?
