I have over 12 years in B2B sales/sales management experience along with a graduate degree. I am wanting to shift gears and I am at a point where I can invest time in myself to learn through practical experience. The new industry I am wanting to pursue is real estate investment. I have read all the books but want some hands on experience on the property management side. How could I best leverage my skills for a role in this, and what should my expectations be for negotiation in compensation?

Hi! I started at a new company 2 months ago and while I’m really enjoying my job so far, I’m having a hard time gauging whether or not I’m doing a “good job.” My role seems to be always evolving, which is fine and I actually enjoy being a support to the greater marketing team, but I feel like I need better defined targets to make sure I’m meeting expectations. Anyone here ever struggled working at a private practice during your first year as a licensed counselor? I work well with the clients but I find it difficult to accept the pay I receive for the amount of work I do and is required. Lately, I realize I haven’t been putting in much effort towards paperwork because of the pay I receive.

What are some things that are helping you avoid burnout recently? I've been spending a lot more time outside, blocking off my schedule more consistently, and even taking extra days off. Slowly I'm starting to feel more like myself!

Any recommendations on a good side hustle or part time job? Trying to buy a house (yes I know the economy sucks right now) and it’s been tough saving with a SW salary.

Recently received my CSW license and have started working as a therapist at an outpatient clinic. Is a starting salary of $64,500 fair? I am supposed to aim for 28 billing hours (get paid if clients show or not) a week with 12 hours of admin time for other tasks. Thanks for any input.

How much time off do you get for the holidays? I have 1 week off. Social workers or therapists at hospitals or treatment centers especially.

I graduated in May of 22. I transitioned from being an intern to being a full time counselor, now for 6 months. I feel like I might be catching my agency at a tough time, but as an employee it doesn’t seem to be trying anything to keep me here besides the occasional ‘motivational’ posts from the administrative team. I felt like I was lowballed during my offer, and my negotiation salary was denied since this is technically my first “professional” job. Pt 2 in comments:

Is it normal to feel numb around the holidays? I'm tired, dealing with seasonal affective disorder and a really tough caseload right now. Not in the holiday spirit at all and honestly don't even want to be, I just want to spend the weekend resting. Is it bad that I don't care about it at all this year?

Any other lonely social workers in here? I mean a lot to some of the people on my caseload but that's about it. Don't have any family near me and it's hard to make friends with non-SW's mostly just because I'm too tired after work to want to do much. Do you spend most of your time alone or is your social time self care for you? Just feel like I don't have a support system!
