I’m about to start an internship at IBM for UX Research. I’m super excited about it, and was wondering if anyone could tell me about the design culture there or how the company is for designers? So far online I’ve only heard about the company from consultants or software engineers. For more reference I’ll be working in Austin.

I pretty much just read through the employee reviews on Glassdoor. If everything looks good and I haven't picked up on any red flags during the interview process, I cross my fingers that I'm making the right decision and accept. It's next to impossible to know what a company is truly like until you start working there.

In my opinion, you won’t really know until you work with the team. I’ve had experiences where I had questions about the team and company culture. Even after a virtual call with team members, everything seemed fine, but once I started, things were different.
This is much harder that people acknowledge. I have heard that some people ask to do a culture interview with someone on the team, but I've always been a little too scared that this would create a red flag for the employer. I'd love to hear what ideas others have!
I would love those details as well. I am currently looking for employment in my field but outside of direct patient care. After 20 years I need something different but dont really know how to look
I honestly think the only way you can fully know about a company culture is to work there for a while. It's just the nature of the beast, some things will remain opaque until you experience them firsthand. However, if you visit the premises while interviewing you can often get a sense of the place and pick up on a lot of things. Asking about it probably won't elicit much, obviously people will give the most benign answers.
