I wouldn't hate them if my company did more than the bare minimum. But as is, they're a complete waste of time and hardly a "reward." There are no bonuses given out, the food is usually meh and there isn't even an open bar. I went as a +1 to my friend's holiday party last year, and it made ours seem so pathetic by comparison. They had a casino night with tons of awesome raffle prizes, an open bar, great food. I would happily go to our party if it was anything like that. As is, I usually show up for 20 minutes just to make an appearance and then try to slink away without anyone noticing.
No holiday party this year. Probably for the best, as turnout had been bad for years. Done right, they are great for team morale.
I can't say I'm a big fan of holiday parties, but I always make sure to attend them. I'll be honest, I enjoy them probably because my expectations are pretty low. I'm not expecting great food or a lot of drinking, so it's just nice to see people outside of work and make some lighthearted conversation.

I love a good holiday party! It’s a nice way to celebrate the team and all the hard work, though yeah, some can get awkward. Raffles and giveaways are a great touch.

They are fine and long as people behave. I had a boss that would get way too drunk and act an absolute fool.
