Talk to HR but sometimes, they're incompetent so I have to deal with it myself. I've actually gotten fired for doing so smh
I stood up to my boss and told her she was being racist and even showed evidence of it through emails but alas, it was to no avail.
Chief
Not very well, like nurse 1, I too have been fired for dealing with it myself. HR is there to protect the company, management can be dismissive/minimize it..
Does EEOC even pay attention to claims nowadays though? I feel like we're so sensitive as a society they don't take things as seriously.
You have to confront it head-on but in a diplomatic and constrained manner. You don't want to come across as accusatory but you have to stand your ground as well. This works best if you have a document paper trail that spans at least 90 days.
Diplomacy is something I struggle with unfortunately smh
Badly. I call it out as soon as I hear it– I can't afford another time to deal with the same thing. I'd rather work in peace without having to walk on eggshells. Thankfully, none of my immediate superiors have this behavior though, I wouldn't know how to deal with it coming from a person I answer to.
So you only dealt with it from coworkers?
Ignore, ignore, ignore. If it gets too much, I think it'd benefit everyone if the microaggressor gets called out.
I was ignoring it for like 3 years, it's too much now :/
Could you elaborate a bit more on what has happened and how it impacts you? This is a very broad question and what people experience as microaggressions vary widely so I know that I would be more likely to give you a better answer if there are more specifics.
Gah I’m sorry this is happening. Anywhere but also to you. I agree w folks here, it’s deeply systemic and unlikely to change. I try to point it out. Calmly. Use “I” statements. Or I try to make them go deeper w their statement to reflect. Would you be comfortable sharing some examples and we can brainstorm? I know that’s a lot of emotional Labor to do this. :-(
I ignore it. I try to stay out of any and all drama. I would just try to avoid those poeple all together.
Hi all -- I'm a reporter. If anyone would like to share their own experiences with this, shoot me an email: alex.janin@wsj.com
