My coworker has been really cold toward me lately. Doesn't say hi to me in the morning and always declines my lunch invitations. Should I ask if I did something wrong or should I just see if it blows over?

If you think that your coworker is mad at you, then go ahead and ask if you did something wrong. It might be an awkward conversation, but it's better to know what's going on than to just wonder. If your coworker says that everything is fine, then it's probably best to just give them some space and see if the behavior changes.

It's probably best to just give her some space for now. She might be having a bad day or something. If it continues, you can always ask if you did something wrong.

Don't worry about it! People are often in low spirits and don't feel like talking to others. It's probably nothing personal. Do you know if she's been going through something lately?

If you feel like it may be something you said or did, then it might be worth bringing up to them in a casual way. For example, "Hey, I noticed you've been kind of distant lately. Is everything okay?" If they don't give you a clear answer or seem to clam up, then it might be best to just give them some space and see if things improve over time.

Assuming that you don't want to confront your coworker and risk damaging the relationship, you should just wait and see if the behavior changes. If it continues, you can try asking him or her if there's something wrong.

Hi community, humbly seeking professional HR advice. I recently joined my company’s HR team. In an informal conversation, a senior HRBP, considered a peer, called 2 of our fellow HR colleagues “worthless.” I should have rebuked her then & there but was so caught off guard. This person is 20 years my senior. In the same conversation this person advocated for me on a separate matter & complimented my performance. I am not sure what course of action to take at this time. Distraught & unsure.

2012 Sr Associate. Left my firm in February after being recruited by a partner I used to work for, and it turns out I’m not very happy. Difficult people, terrible schedule and ruined vacations so far. A partner at my old firm in another group has asked if I would come back to work for just him. I liked working for him, we have great rapport and I could do permanent WFH since he is in another city. I don’t want to burn bridges, would this be a bad idea? Or an easy decision?

What should I reasonably expect from a junior?

I manage a junior developer that's been with the company for about 18 months. I end up providing them of TON of support. I need to give them extremely detailed instructions or they fail. For bugs, I need to point them to a specific function that's causing the bug. For new features, I'm basically writing their method signatures and defining their test cases.

I've tried asking them to do more on their own, but when I do, they fail spectacularly.

I’m not from an English speaking country but I am watching a tv show and businessmen walk into a room and instead of greeting eachother, everyone says each person’s first name in lieu of hi, however in my experience working in the states, I haven’t seen anyone do this, it’s always hi or good afternoon or some other greeting first THEN they say their first name. is it also appropriate to omit the greeting?
