Ugh, I absolutely hate networking events. However, I know they are important and useful, but I really have to get hyped up for them.
Same! Luckily I have colleagues who are more hyped about it than me so they pulled me along!
I'm incredibly socially awkward. Networking events make me uncomfortable. I hate being put in positions where I have to force myself to have conversations with people I don't know.
I know what you mean! On the other hand I hate having to ask or pull things out of people just to make conversation… it’s not fair to them and makes them uncomfortable.
I think that they are good resources to find like minded people in the industry. After you go to a few of them, it gets easier.
That is true. I went to one recently that was full of execs and really was the reason I didn’t want to go….. they could care less about middle management. However I was pleasantly surprised once I met some of them!
Depends on my mood. Sometimes I go and I have a great time. Other times I drag myself there and count the minutes until I can bail. It helps if you go with a coworker or two so it's not as awkward.
Very true! I don’t think it looks good though if you’re hanging on to the same person the entire time at a work event though. I’ve forced myself to insert into strangers huddles and introduce myself 😂 even if I came with someone.
