Set yourself up with a good accountant or accounting practice.
They will run you through various options to setting up a company / umbrella company - depending on your goal and what you expect to get out of it. Allow for a month or so for full setup.
I assume you want to keep your FT role so explain that to them. They will or should advise on setting up a separate bank account for taxes etc.
You’ll have monthly fees even if you aren’t working/have side line gigs. Ask your accountant about those and the options, PLI and taxes rates and so on.
Thereafter you need to work out for yourself how you approach this. Esp as you want to do it on the side - ie you don’t want conflict of interest with work.
Think about:
-Where you will find clients.
-Your approach and how you sell yourself to potential clients.
-Realistic time you can commit to it.
-Your rates and how you will charge and terms.
-Your name and attitude are everything for future work.
Otherwise it’s daunting but worth it if it becomes steady.
Good luck.

Thanks for the thorough feedback - much appreciated! I’ll make an accountant my first port of call
I don't know about programmatic advertising, but in medcomms, there are plenty of recruiters that can help find clients – that's how I hire freelancers and that's what I'd do if I made the jump.
My advice is to talk to someone about the market. I was advised against the switch given the current landscape
I’m looking for UK media planning/ buying freelancers!! DM me and I’ll kick you to a colleague to have a zoom chat!
Hey! Great to see your post - I’ve got a few leads in the programmatic advertising space that I’m happy to share. Happy for you to reach out directly x
Hi there! I'm also in the same boat as the OP (Programmatic AE in London). So if you have a lot of clients, I think me and OP can double team on some of the projects.
