My wife often calls me by 5:45/6 to ask where I am if I’m not headed home yet. Sometimes she’s stressed with kids/dogs/dinner and really wants me home. This really throws off my concentration because it makes me feel rushed. Like many practices sometimes I’m out at 5:30, other times it’s much later. Just depends and is unpredictable. What would you do if you didn’t need money? I have a fair amount coming one day and don’t actually need to work to live a good life (middle / upper-middle class). I work because of this vague notion of “ambition” and because everyone I grew up around is highly competitive and hard driving. Happy wife happy life is a really toxic saying. I’m just shocked how this has become the standard saying for men in relationships. I have friends of mine saying this all the time, and I have just thought it’s so cringe and always want to say my thoughts on it but always decide to hold back.
