How do you guys go about learning the code sections so well? It feels like the jump from manager to senior manager is so large to me. It feels like SM’s and above know code like the back of their hand and I just feel like there’s no way they learned this just by working. They must’ve self studied this stuff outside of work. Any tips, books, articles, or daily habits I can implement to up my technical knowledge?

I think BNA portfolios are the best resources. They have great explanations of most code sections and often provide historical or practical context, along with the relevant cross references to other statutes, regs, cases, etc.

like

Logic or Subchapter K. Also, just experience and the same stuff comes up all the time when you work on the same returns. Other than that, I Google a tax adviser article and read it and trust that is it right to sound like I know what I am taking about.

That is also a good one.

I don't know every section of the IRC like the back of my hand. However, there are a few sections that I have dealt with often in my career and so they tend to stick.

I always look for opportunities to learn, but I don't go out of my way to study some esoteric code section that isn't applicable to my current work.

This is what I’ve been doing but I’m only a senior

But 😂 I don’t have my cpa yet because I suck at taking exams. Currently studying. 🥲

Usually from working on a project that deals with a specific code section. Giving presentations and having to research new topics. Try giving yourself homework, once a month or as your time permits to prepare a presentation on section of the code that interests you. You don't really know if you understand the code until you try to explain it to someone else.

People still read the code? Color me shocked

I am a 2nd year associate at a plaintiff’s firm specializing in toxic tort cases (individual). I’ve had the opportunity to be third chair on a trial, and will likely be second chair in an upcoming trial. However, given the track record of the firm and the amount of money at stake in each case, I am afraid I won’t get any first chair experience, if any, for at least another 5-7 years. I am considering staying at the firm but trying to get trial experience through side Pro Bono work. Thoughts?

I've been an individual contributor for 4 years in Tech, have 8 years of experience total. I'm finding it difficult to make the management transition despite having management experience, performing beyond expectations, and having a genuine passion for enablement and development.

I'd appreciate any success stories or pointers you can offer in regards to this transition.

1. Do you get to work on big data projects and streaming data pipelines as well?

2. Which technical skills they would interview me for? (given that I have few months of full time experience in my current firm & prior Indian irrelevant experience)

3. Do you enjoy the working or does it get monotonous after few projects?

More questions in comment.

I'm graduating with a Master's in Biomedical Engineering with a decent amount of research in academia (and no "professional experience" outside of research facilities), but I don't want to pursue down the line to get a PhD. I have been juggling the options of R&D in the industry (MedTech, Biotech, Pharma) or Consulting (Life Sciences) for which I don't really have a background. What are my other options?

I'm looking to gain as much experience as possible out of college in an IT role and wondering what exit opportunities may be in place a year or two down the road if there is little/slow progression.

Any Advice?

Hi all!
Would love some insight on how you went from an HR assistant/coordinator to an HR Generalist. I’ve been in the HR world for 8 years, and only in the last 2-3 have I really done real HR work. The first company I was at didn’t have a solid HR team so I don’t really count that. I feel like I’m ready to take on more responsibility and learn more. And of course make more money.

I have looked into getting SHRM certification. But should I go back to school and get my masters in Hr?
