I am a graduating student who just got offered 65k for a solution analyst role at Deloitte USDC (Data Engineering Focus). From reading previous posts it seems to be a lot of negative thoughts surrounding the USDC, but straight out of college is this a good opportunity?

I'm looking to gain as much experience as possible out of college in an IT role and wondering what exit opportunities may be in place a year or two down the road if there is little/slow progression.

Any Advice?

This is a great job right out of college for an IT role. I work everyday with USDC folks, including solution analysts. However, I'm in core consulting.

Just want to put it out there that 65k for any job straight out of college is good. It also depends on the city you live in as to whether 65k is ideal. You can always move jobs quickly if it’s not for you. Deloitte is a fantastic name to have on a resume, especially for the first job you have. A lot of recruiters are a lot more open to any type of “real-world” experience over college/intern experience. If you get a year there you’re golden.

I’d take it and start your career. My first job outta college was with Deloitte and later moved to other companies. But every time I’d interview, they’d say oh wow you worked with Deloitte and almost got an offer the same day of interview.

Agree! In this economy beggars cannot be choosers.

like

USDC has weaker benefits and pay. They don’t lay this out clearly during recruiting so I will 😁

Straight out of college, yes you need to take what you can get. Long term, would not recommend

like

Like USDC, EFAs are a different trajectory. You’ll make some great connections but I can’t speak to pay or benefits

Just be aware that your core peer in your project with same level of experience and doing the exact same thing will be probably earning 90k plus like 10k bonus. Just be aware of that. It will take a toll on your mental health and job satisfaction. I moved from usdc and even though is possible to move its not a common thing. It will depend a lot on your leadership. If you have any questions dm me

As any big company it will always depend on your manager

65k is a decent starting salary right out of college. Don’t be fooled by everyone talking about how they make 6 figures fresh out of undergrad. Try and learn as much as you can for one year and then find another role. That experience plus having Deloitte on your resume should set you up for a good exit.

I also do not have too much coding experience other then classes. How is Deloittes training on programs I may not be familiar with?

Depends on the offering. Frankly, not great training. Only in the Strategy and Analytics offering is there a solid, structure IT/Analytics/AI training program, and that's for consultant staff.

What is the USDC?

like

It's supposed to be originally the tech delivery department, think developers, designers, software engineers etc. To D1's point however, some of them are now doing client management and consulting type activities. On the tech project I'm working on, our consulting analyst's work is indistinguishable from some of the USDC solution analyst/specialist work of others on our team.

Good first job and great brand on your resume. It's probably not the top 1% of opportunities for talented grads, but it's a great opportunity that can easily be leveraged to access those top opportunities.

like

Even in those areas, it's not really a 1% kind of opportunity for talented grads.

It's a great career start and and it doesn't sound like there's a better offer on the table.

Hi, I’m also graduating this December and looking for full time roles. Is this role at deloitte still open?let me know.TIA

Well it's always good to make sure you got the right money, but money don't buy happiness, what does your heart tell you, your heart will never lead you in the wrong direction. If anything it will tell you if it's a good idea or maybe you should try something different. If you make it about money, your doing it for the wrong reasons.

Then you would sit down and talk, negotiate so to speak, try to compromise and meet in the middle, sometimes you may have to give a little to receive, cause nothing is ever exactly equal, but never go more than your worth because then your forgetting who you are to make someone happy to get what they want, but if your honest and explain why your asking for that amount so to speak you have to back up what it is and why your asking with confidence, because people can sense a lie a mile away but confidence can make even the most complicated and egotistical person see potential and even invest in taking a chance. It's a in what you believe in and what your heart tells you to do.

I attended PSU and would love to connect with you to talk more about your situation. Please feel free to message me.

I think that's a good offer. If your goal is to gain experience, then go for it. But you can also negotiate for a higher base.

Have you scoped out any ISPs? Or healthcare orgs? Are they offering you remote work? What’s cost of living like there? I would do some looking around in here, glassdoor, and other employment sites to see if you can get a better feel for what you’re getting into. As a new grad or soon to be new grad, there might be plenty of places offering you an incentive for your skillset. But we also don’t know if this is the only offer you have on the table, so hard (at least for me) to give any guidance. I know when I was looking at the consulting game after getting my MBA I considered Deloitte, but also I’m in Alaska so options are kind of thin.
