How do you look at the promotions and raise process? Is it a strategic time to find out if you have perceived value within the company? Or do you feel like it’s demeaning, like begging for spare change?

It’s strategic to me. If I feel like my skills aren’t being compensated adequately and recognized then it is time for me to leave.

I use it in the same way. It’s an indicator if I’m providing value. I make my case and see how they respond. The raise or promotion is their way of saying we want to retain you. Extra money is nice, but time is more valuable to me. If I’m not providing value I’m not staying another year.

Our promotion and progress programs are based of business cases at almost all levels that go for independent review where you demonstrate your value via a promodoc.

Raises are separate and are based on annual performance and your banding.

I think both are fair to me. The main issue is with companies that have title inflation where you expect to progress or promote almost every year. The title often doesn’t reflect the increment.

Been through all interviews, recruiter said it's looking good but they would let me know early this week and asked if that works from a timing perspective since they know I was interviewing with someone else also. Which is the more lucrative and flexible long term career path when comparing .NET development vs salesforce development.

By flexible I mean in terms of moving between positions, companies and technologies.

I've done both and am currently doing salesforce development but don't want to get pigeonholed.

Hey Cyber friends! I’m a life long professional creative looking to get out. I’m fascinated by Cybersec/Infosec and have been learning a small amount. Tryhackme + YouTube + beginning to learn some python. However, I’m well aware that these baby steps don’t compare to the real job.

My questions: do you like what you do? Would you recommend the field or your discipline to a friend? What is the best and worst part of your job? Grateful for any and all responses. Thanks for letting me lurk! 🙏🏻🙏🏻
