The best thing about having good stuff die - and I sincerely mean this - is that it goes in the bottom drawer. And you can bring it out again. And again. And again. And the more good stuff you write that doesn’t get made, the more full that drawer gets. I used to be be in absolute wonder at some of my CD’s who could throw our ideas and excursions off the top of their tongue in reviews. Now I realise they were just old ideas they’d written or seen a before in their career. And, honestly, there are only about half a dozen strategies or briefs out there it seems, so you can almost always reuse good stuff with a bit of shoehorning.
This is SO TRUE
What’s wrong with being sad? You liked something and cared about it so be sad for a minute. Then move on. Maybe what you liked wasn’t right. Maybe the powers that be have different tastes, maybe another team had something that was liked more. Happens to everyone all the time. Be sad. Be proud you came up with something you cared about. Know you will come up with ideas you care about in the future and one of those will get made.
I used to work w a high end freelancer who would crank out a batch of really good tv scripts in the blink of an eye. All clever, funny, and amazingly well crafted in the small amount of time he’d take to whip them out. It took me a long time to realize he was recycling old ideas from previous gigs.
Don’t mourn your killed ideas, monetize them. Meticulously save them, and you can resell the over and over again to an endless stream of future clients who will all be delighted to have them. No idea is really dead until it’s produced.
Save it for later and in the meantime go back to drawing board and have a better idea. Nothing feels better than the newest great idea.
Because it was just an idea not a black person senselessly killed by police
Happens a lot. And easier once it happens more. But yeah definitely back pocket and maybe you can recycle it for something else down there line. Keep a note tab of all of that.

Just know you have better stuff coming later. Also, don’t get that attached. It happened to me, lesson learned. I’m only happy about an idea once we are in the edit suite and client has approved the final product.
Save it for later. When the opportunity comes, tweak it for another brand, change it enough so no one can tell, sell it and boom.
Keep all of your ideas, you’ll have a million chances to pitch it agajn
By reaffirming my belief that i am an idea machine w a bottomless supply of great ideas.
And by knowing that the bittersweet experience of great ideas killed is what turns us all into those savvy, wise awesome old pros I used to love to talk to when I was a junior.
Wait til it gets killed a week before the shoot
Put it in the bottom drawer for a later date
I think it’s ok to be sad about it! You don’t have to stew in it. Feel the feelings and then take the feedback if there was any and make an effort to take that Into consideration on your next project.
Just know you will have another idea you will love. There is no need to feel down or take it personally
Go from sad to rage. Ideas still get killed after post.
Fall in love with the creative process. Just because it does not get through does not mean it never existed. Also, remember just because you love an idea does not mean it was good or it is what was needed.
Practice.

Fam his idea was killed internally, not by a client.
It probably wasn’t as good as you think. Get feedback and figure out why.
Move on. Beat it with an even better idea next time. That's our job.

Don’t worry. Millions will die. You get used to it and you realize you have millions more to create ahead of yourself.
No reason to lose it, finish it out how you want and put it in your portfolio.
I try to think of myself less as the parent of an idea and more like an idea Madam. I have my favorite ideas but if you don’t like this idea, there’s plenty of others.
