Yep, found out my teammate was going on mat leave and my boss had no plan for coverage on an already strapped team. (We had been working 70-80 hour weeks for months!) So I started having weekly panic attacks for the first time in my life leading up to her leaving. Told my boss and HR that my workload was unbearable and I was extremely worried about her coverage, and they did nothing. Started looking for new jobs and left two months later, a few weeks before she left for mat leave. And I’d do it again. No job is worth that stress.
Way to take control back.
Not sure why you disqualify little sleep and high stress. Because I was not sleeping enough, stressed, not eating well, I had a weakened immune system so I was often sick. Would catch a cold and then would get complications like bronchitis or sinusitis. Never had the time to properly rest. Yes I left.
You can take short term disability leave. Your doctor will surely give you all the necessary paperwork considering you landed in the ER
Yes. Thyroid problem and pelvic floor issues. Gained weight. Immune system tanked. Migraines.
I wish I took leave. Didn’t know it was possible. Stuck it out. Rearranged my priorities to put myself first. Got the medical help I needed. Worked with HR to make sure nothing interfered with the medical help I needed. Set strong boundaries and generally keep my hours 9-5. Not worth anything else.
Happy to hear you got it all back on track. Those issues are no joke.
I lost 20 stress pounds when I first started my last job. I was never underweight so I’m not sure that counts.
Nope but the pounds came back when i left for a better job lol
I’m going through a health crisis right now. Stress has driven my immune system to attack mode. I’m experiencing new symptoms like arthritis, dermatitis, migraines, and intense lower back pain. Doc thinks it’s lupus but I know it’s the stress from work. Don’t know what to do. I can’t just leave.
You can take paid leave to get the help you need. This is absolutely an option and I strongly recommend you do so. If you do not put yourself first, no one else will.
Yes, although I would combine work stress with crippling anxiety about the world. I had such intense body numbness, tingling, twitching and weakness that I saw three neurologists and did two brain/spine MRIs. Got autoimmune testing.
Everything came back normal except cortisol, which apparently was so high the doctor said it had been years since they had seen results like that.
Mental health affects physical health with troubling quickness.
I’m doing better. It will pop up when I feel myself getting stressed or anxious. But it’s manageable. For a while, I was bracing myself for a scary diagnosis. So as crazy as this might be, it’s something I can deal with. Definitely working on trying to minimize the stress in my life. And working out helps a lot.
Yes. I had such bad skin rashes that I had to do wet wraps and went on medicine I was on for years.
I felt sick to my stomach being in there. It affected my sense of self worth.
I was so happy to get laid off. I pretended to be upset, got a lawyer involved and asked them for more money. I started working at another place and was so much happier. When the jerks finally gave me the extra money I donated it to charity because I was really flush with cash from freelancing (and I wanted to do a mental saging of the room, so to speak.)
100%. I had just taken a new job, after 15 years in the industry and 3 agencies that had taken advantage of me every single day, and one day I thought I was coming down with the flu. Cut to 5 days later, I was rushed in an ambulance to the ICU where I stayed for a week. I didn’t listen to my body and it decided it had had enough of the late nights, weekends, extreme stress, lack of sleep, terrible eating and genuine lack of self-care. Had I not gone into the hospital that night, I would be here. Literally. I was on death’s door. From that moment on, things HAD to change. My priorities were shifted to me first. End of story. And if a job didn’t work within that, I left. I now freelance, and while I don’t love it, especially in Account Management, it also allows me to breath, and get compensated for the crazy. My health has to come before all else and no one should ever have to apologize for it or explain why.
Does developing acid refluc and hand tremors count?
Yes.
Developed an irregular heartbeat and pelvic floor issues. Both went away with job change and divorce 👌
