Yes it’s a polite way to fire people.
I offered this to someone once. Their skills and the company needs were no longer a fit, but I hoped to give them a bit of runway to wrap their projects, say goodbye to their coworkers, and start interviewing elsewhere.
haha, nahh. The “notice” was the severance. Something is better than nothing.

Happened to me. We lost a big account, and had to cut half the agency. We were all given 31 days notice — 30 days to help each other get our portfolios together, and one more day so our healthcare would last through the end of the next month.

An agency in Milwaukee
If I was going to get laid off, I’d appreciate getting this treatment.
Rather have $
Yes…longer If they want to minimize the chance of a lawsuit.
Had a friend who got laid off but was on a visa. Agency kept him on until he found a new job so it wouldn’t lapse. Damn decent of them
This was Anomaly, if anyone is curious
Yea
Yep.
Happened to me last year when my company did covid layoffs. I appreciated the heads up, especially because the holding company only allowed them to pay me two weeks formal severance.

👆true, no matter if you meet the req’s. Pretty shaddy tbh
Yes, it’s a humane way of laying someone off. Also a wager that the laid off person will be decent and professional, and leave things in a good place for their coworkers.
Most definitely. Happened to me. We lost a very big account. But still had a work to deliver during the transition period plus the client wanted hours on a weekly basis to see they were paying for the personnel on their account so the entire team was kept on. We were allowed to job hunt, freelance for other agencies and didn’t have to come in as long as we recorded time for the account.
It’s so they don’t have to pay you severance and perhaps avoid a lawsuit
A bunch of GroupM dept heads got 2 hours notice during Covid !
Yes. Knew a lay off as coming with a restructure. Got 30 days notice and 8 weeks severance for my team.
