How do you special education teachers at high school level collect specially designed instruction data and goals and objective data for students that you put in or coteach with and get that information out to their case managers

Depends if you're talking about academic or behavior goals. For academic, we have the benefit of having all of our caseload students at least once a day for a "learning strategies" class where we do specially designed instruction and progress monitoring on academic goals. For behavior, I use a lot of Google forms for gen ed teachers and paraeducators to rate students on a rubric correlating to their behavior goal.

I always kept a folder with just the objectives and accommodations. When a lesson applies to Goal I note it and the accommodations that were provided.

At my school, we take data on the applicable goals in our co-taught classes that we share with each student’s case manager quarterly. We also have a class period for meeting with the kids on our caseload to track progress and provide interventions that can’t happen in the gen ed setting.

Too many cooks in the kitchen

I love my job in special education, the job may bring quite a bit of stress and exhaustion but nothing compares to the stress of the related service team. OT, PT, speech, BCBA, social worker, etc etc is really what’s killing me this year. It is 23 days into the school year and the team members all make different plans and as a result, nothing is being accomplished. And if paraprofessionals follow ie what OT says but not PT, it cause so much unnecessary conflict!

I feel like I'm at my wits end. I teach self-contained classes and according to the ISBE website my classes shouldn't be more than 8 students unless I have an aide - then it can be 10. I have no aide and most of my classes are around 14 kids. Some with behavior plans that are only out of our behavior room setting for my class... Is anybody else out there going through illegal class sizes for self-contained? How are you dealing? Maybe a vent session is in order.

I work with middle and high school students that have mild LD. Has an felt that they have to walk them through every step of every assignment?

My students come to my class first every morning and are really hard to settle. They continue to carry on whatever they were doing on the bus. It takes about 20 min to get them settled down and doing the warm up and the class is only 45 min. Any tips?

I have a student who only comes to school two days a week and then only for 1 hour. He tells me I have to pass him so it doesn't matter. This is very frustrating. I knew this student hates school and often states he is stupid. I just do my best to encourage him. Build confidence. Any ideas to encourage him more? By the way, taking to his parent does nothing.

Question about inclusion…. I’ve been teaching inclusion for 5 years so I’m still a newb, but a first year coworker of mine said she got points off on her observation because her kids were scattered in the classroom and she was having to move from kid to kid to assist. While I see the point of putting them together for convenience, I don’t agree with this at all! To me this is like singling them out by putting them all together instead of INCLUDED amongst peers. What do y’all think?
