How do you tell your team bad news? I need to let everyone know our budget is cut by end of week and I’m so mad but I don’t want to let my team know how I really feel and make them discouraged

Ughhhh! I'm so sorry you're even having to go through this. This is the absolute worst part about management. I always approach these things with honesty and a hint of emotion. We're human, and anger is a normal emotion, it just needs to be extremely well controlled. I may be the unpopular opinion, but I actually like to address exactly what I'm afraid of. "Listen, I know this is discouraging, but this is our gameplan [fill in the blank]." Trust me, if you're feeling it, your team is, too.

Rip off the band aid. We're going through this right now, and we know the layoffs are coming. The worst thing our manager did was try to spin it as a positive because there is no way for that to come across as anything but fake and unsupportive. Let them know that the budget has been cut, you don't know yet what that means for the team or the future, but for now the changes are X and X and we need to keep focusing on doing the best work we can.

Just be honest with them. Tell them what you know, and admit if there is information you do not know. This is one of the worst parts of managing a team, delivery of bad news, so i understand how you feel. Good luck.

Transparency is the best policy. If you can connect this to any largest strategy or business condition it might help people feel that it’s not personal.

Also remember, startups outpace large corporations while having scarce resources. They are scrappy, motivated and creative. It might be cliche but maybe you can rally around ‘act like a startup’

Has anyone in here ever had their budget increased? I swear marketing budgets only get cut and are always first on the chopping block. It's maddening. If it was me, I would just rip the bandaid, provide total clarity and empathize with them. I think it's perfectly fine to let some of your frustration show. I think that'd make them feel like you're on their side and part of the team, not just a robotic messenger doing corporate's bidding.

Keep it short

I received an offer for 80k to work as a desktop engineer for TCS at one of their client’s locations. However, I have seen poor reviews for working at TCS and I’d like to get some feedback from anyone currently or had previously worked for that company. What is the environment like and has anyone been in a situation where the contract with TCS and the client ended and had trouble with TCS finding them a new role at the same pay?

You know what, I’ve had no luck so far so I’ll go ahead and try this.

My name is Michael Smith, but I go by Mikey J. I’ve been looking for work in the digital marketing and media field for a couple of months now to no avail.

Here is my resume. Take a look. Maybe someone knows of someone who is looking for my experience and can connect us. Maybe you’re the one looking. Either way, thanks in advance!

First off - thanks for any help!

After doing freelance for the last two years, I’ve decided to go back to the corporate world. I’ve been applying a ton of places but keep getting turned down immediately - not even a first interview and I can’t figure out why.

I feel like I have a lot of good accolades as far as awards, a graduate certificate program board I’m on, really good stats from my previous work, etc.

I have 7 years experience. Are people looking for someone w/ less experience/cheaper?

Facebook Ads after iOS 14 changes.

I'll share my experience and urge you to share yours:

Since iOS 14 changes, Facebook ads isn't the same anymore. Why?

A. >75% iOS users denied tracking. They are no longer tracked across websites/apps. Facebook lost its edge.
B. Targeting and conversion tracking aren't as effective anymore.
C. Many advertisers have been migrating their budgets from Facebook to Apple and Amazon ads.

What's your experience? Let's all learn.

Is my manager forcing me out?

In our 121 last we had a good discussion on creating a personal development plan, with the idea being I’d write down clear goals & action points to get from my current level to the next, and I’d provide weekly evidence of it. I prepped the doc accordingly, but instead of wanting to discuss it, he said I have 4 weeks to “turn things around” - without giving any new info on what I’ve done wrong - esp given I wrote my goals based on this same feedback from last week??

Hello! How can I break into the creative branding industry with 3 years of basic marketing knowledge, a self made website, and an extensive sales background in the CPG industry

I’m job searching right now and applied for a job I was a little overqualified for just to shoot my shot and get my foot in the door with a great brand. The hiring mgr took the time to email me to tell me I was overqualified and offered to help me get connected to his network. He’s been so kind and helpful and I’m kind of in shock at his generosity. Even if an offer doesn’t come from it, is it weird if I send him a Starbucks gift card or something as a thank you? What’s appropriate?

I have worked in marketing for about 6-7 years. First few years were in social media management. My goal is to work at a big tech company.

1) How much does Google, Amazon, Microsoft, etc. value MBAs in the hiring process?

2) Anyone currently working at the companies above with only a BBA?

So, recently got put on a PIP after six months at my new job., two days after I told my boss and HR I recently learned I have a cognitive disability caused by an illness. The PIP was mostly because I forgot some deadlines, but also they said I need to be more professional in emails (even though others use zero punctuation and a lot of emojis. To clients.) and simultaneously ask more questions and ask fewer questions. Should I just assume this is unattainable and look for a new job again?
