Hi guys,
Need help,I am joining VMware Banglore on 27th June. During interview I told them I need wfh. They said it wil be wfh this entire year. Only mistake I did was i didn't permanent wfh. I took for granted like once I join i can opt for it ( as my VMware friends had said we can opt for it)
Now the offices have started, I am scared if they call me to office , I have 14months son, not willing to leave him n go for office.
So if I ask manager to give me permanent wfh will they agree ?

I'm working in Tata Consultancy for last 9months. I got allocated to Deployment team in Kolkata. I'm a quick learner and it was my mistake to learn everything so quickly. I've been forced to work for 12hrs at least regularly. Also, I've been providing night support daily for production (yes!! Production is happening daily) but I'm not getting any overtime pay. My manager is not responding to my mails regarding my dues. What shall I do?? Will HR help me? I'm demotivated and I want to resign. 😞

I use video when I’m heavily involved in the conversation. Allows me to engage more effectively.
If just an audience member, turn off
Same. If it's a small group or 1:1 call, camera on usually. Any large calls where I won't be speaking much/at all, I leave it off.
I go on camera when I want to go on camera. I don't think there is any etiquette regarding this. Some pple are comfortable always going on camera and others are not.
If it’s a call that otherwise would’ve been an in person meeting, I use video. If it would’ve just been a call, then I call. If it’s a call that I would’ve dialed in for but sat with another person in an office, I use video. Honestly, I like the verbal cues from others. I never expect clients to use video but let them know it’s an option. I also don’t force anyone on my team to use video. As an overall group, we’ve gotten used to video but we were always big on meeting in person so I think that makes sense
I only go on camera for client calls (my client has a camera-on policy for their employees) or if someone Director-level or above insists that everyone turns on their camera
We are all “working” from home. My personal rule is that I’m still a professional employee during business hours and will turn video ON. If you want to keep video OFF after hours or weekends, then that’s your non-work time and there are no expectations/requirements.
The view is a bit antiquated, but that is not the first time I’ve heard it. It’s important to realize that this standard may not be an achievable one for everyone. Your response spoke to me AS1 as someone managing three school age children’s needs while leading a project.
Unfortunately, all our Webex meeting are video and you're pretty much expected to be on camera... I'm talking about 2 video meetings a day aside from 1 or 2 on the phone

I’m not on camera unless I need to be, ie I know everyone else will be or it’s a one-on-one convo when I know the other person will be on
I’m always on camera so my bosses won’t forget I exist. Also I shower and shave before going on camera
I’m just so done with being on camera. I now usually wait to see what others do. Sometimes I go on to kick off the call and then turn the camera off as soon as I’m just listening.

I am not on camera by default. If you want to see me on camera, I need some time to beat my mug.
